What is Therapeutic Riding? The use of horses and equine-assisted activities in order to achieve goals that enhance physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioral and educational skills for people who have disabilities. What are the benefits of therapeutic riding?

Boosting self confidence
What is Hippotherapy? The term hippotherapy refers to the use of movement of the horse as a treatment strategy by physical and occupational therapists and speech/language pathologists to address impairments, functional limitations and disabilities in patients with neuromotor and sensory dysfunction. What is the cost of equine assisted therapy? Each program has a cost associated with what it takes to run that program, keep quality high standards content and professional staff, along with well-trained adult volunteers. The horses are considered staff members, and are carefully selected to provide this service. At the intake appointment for each client, length of services are discussed to reach positive results. A typical therapeutic riding session of 4 weeks would be $300.00 private pay. What is Equine-facilitated Psychotherapy? It is an interactive process in which a licensed mental health professional, working with or as an appropriately credentialed equine professional, partners with suitable equine(s) to address psychotherapy goals set forth by the mental health professional and the client. What is Equine Assisted Learning? An educational approach to equine-assisted activities. The content is developed and organized by credentialed practitioners with the primary intent to facilitate personal growth and development of the life skills through equine interactions. Do you offer discounts for services? Serenity Farm strives to make programs affordable and available for our community through fundraising, grant writing and gifts from our generous donors. We offer a scholarship program for our families that qualify and strive to keep our cost at a minimum. Does my health care insurance cover equine assisted therapy? No, we do not bill insurance. Our relationship is with the client and family and we do not enter into the insurance process. Most insurance companies do not cover equine assisted therapy or therapeutic riding. There are many community resources that can help with the cost of therapy. Please check with your insurance providers as changes can occur with coverage. I have a horse that I would love to donate, would you take him? Thank you for the offer. At this time, we do not have any openings for additional horses. If you feel strongly that your horse candidate is a good fit for therapy services, please send us your most current vet/farrier/dental records and we will get back to you. Do you offer riding lessons? Serenity Farm does not offer recreational riding lessons. Please check your local listings for numerous barns in the area that provide those services. What does it cost to take care of a therapy horse? The board of trustees at Serenity Farm budget $4,000 per year for full size horses and $2,000 per year for the mini horses. That total budget comes to $18,000.00 per calendar year for SF.
