Equine Assisted Therapy, a truly remarkable counseling model with
huge results to clients. Horses are honest creatures. Horses have
been used in therapy settings for centuries with outstanding results
to work with hurting people.
"She was just 14, sexually abused by her mother's boyfriend.
Mom picked the boyfriend over her daughter and
placed her into foster care.
So much anger had surfaced in school, towards other people, declining
grades and
attracting boyfriends of her own. The foster mom decided to try
Serenity Farm counseling services to help reach
this hurting teenage girl. With eight weeks of equine assisted therapy,
this 14 year old was able to work
through her anger and confront her mom about the abuse. She worked
at planning goals for her education
and made a few new friends as she "unlocked" those pent
up emotions."

"Our family was not working together, always argueing and fighting
over every little thing. I just wanted to
give up on my husband and I couldn't stand being around my kids
every day. Good grief....my world
was miserable all around me. I saw an ad for Serenity Farm and equine
assisted therapy. I figured
I could get my family to visit since they had animals, but I didn't
tell them it was counseling
services. We were all surprised by what we experienced. It wasn't
like counseling at all! It was
fun. I had fun with my family doing activities with horses! To my
surprise the counseling was all
going on around us, the horses and co-facilitators had my family
work through our relationship
problems and we came up with our own solutions. We did have the
best answers to our problems
and had a a real sense of pride about our family after working just
6 weeks at the farm."

"My
son started losing interest in school and stopped doing his homework.
He said he just didn't
care anymore, but wouldn't
tell me why. My concern grew once his report card came with grades
declining from a 3.4 to a 2.9. Now was the time to act or he was
not going to pass 8th grade.
A neighbor told me about this horse program, so I thought why not,
maybe my son would go to
something like this. We signed up for a 4 week committment at first,
he actually liked it, pretended
not to, but was ready to go back each week. The amazing point, this
counseling method worked! My
son was confortable enough to bring to the surface what was bothering
him. He was being bullyed
in the locker room at school, and I had no idea! Money was stolen,
his homework stolen and
sexual advances made to him by another student."
